Hairy Ant Babies

This is a close view of a trap-jaw ant baby.

 

Scientists used an electron microscope to get detailed views of the baby ants.

 

 

The spikes and other protuberances are used to attach the baby to the walls and ceiling of the nest while they develop into grown ants.
